In cooperation with the renowned falconer Pierre Schmidt, the award-winning "eagle whisperer", we offer our guests an extraordinary experience: bird of prey flight demonstrations directly on our hotel grounds.

Where wild birds and humans meet
Just a few kilometers from our hotel is a special place: Pierre Schmidt's falconry, nestled in the idyllic cultural landscape of the Erft floodplain at Gymnich Castle. Over 30 different birds of prey - including eagles, buzzards, falcons and owls - have found their home here.
Visitors can marvel at the birds up close on a tour or take part in one of the regular flight shows. Especially for families, nature lovers and photographers, this place is an impressive nature experience with a lasting effect.

What makes this experience special is that some of the majestic air shows also take place on the extensive grounds of the Landhotel Sophienhöhe. Our historic park becomes the stage for a spectacle that combines heaven and earth. Whether as an atmospheric supporting program of a conference or as an inspiring program point at a wedding celebration - the encounter with the birds of prey will be unforgettable.
When eagles fly their circles, falcons hover silently overhead or an owl lands on your arm, you can feel the age-old connection between humans and animals. Pierre Schmidt and his team explain the behavior, habitat and history of these animals with a great deal of knowledge and passion and allow you to immerse yourself in the centuries-old art of falconry.
A falconer with heart and distinction
Pierre Schmidt is much more than just a falconer. He is a nature lover, animal expert, storyteller and protagonist of the award-winning film "Adlerflüsterer", which was awarded first place in the documentary category of the International Film Competition. His work with the animals is touching and opens our eyes to the beauty of the wilderness.
His falconry also offers seminars for anyone who would like to find out more. With a falconer's glove, patience and respect, you will learn how to handle the birds and perhaps also learn something about yourself.
