Our beekeeping in NRW

Humming residents and sweet moments

If you sit on the forest terrace of the Landhotel Sophienhöhe and listen to the gentle buzzing, you can already guess: this is not only home to our guests, but also to some very special residents. Our bees.

They are hard-working ambassadors of nature, ensure the pollination of countless plants and also give us a sweet treat in a jar with our own honey.

Our beekeeping in NRW is not only a project close to our hearts, but also a meaningful piece of sustainability. Nature, enjoyment and responsibility come together here and you are invited to experience this at first hand.

A place for bees and new perspectives

Our apiary in the Rhineland is located on our natural hotel grounds, lovingly tended and looked after by hotel owner Stefan Weirich. As a trained bee expert, he is not only able to make honey himself. He also brings knowledge, passion and genuine commitment to these fascinating animals.

Our bees collect their nectar in the midst of a diverse cultural landscape - from flowering wild meadows and forest edges to lovingly planted garden beds. Our beekeeping in the Rhineland is a particularly ecologically managed site that benefits insects, birds and plants alike.

Responsibility hums along

Our beekeeping in NRW is part of a larger concept: the protection and promotion of biodiversity on our land. In addition to honey bees, we are also dedicated to protecting the often forgotten wild bees, whose habitats are disappearing in many areas.

With our own wild bee protection program , we create targeted retreats: deadwood hedges, dry stone walls, flowering areas and nesting aids that are tailored to the needs of a wide variety of species. This means that not only honeybees, but also mason bees, bumblebees and other industrious pollinators live in peaceful coexistence with us.

Our contribution to sustainability:

  • Sustainable beekeeping with respect for nature and animals
  • Nectar from regional, species-rich flora
  • Supervision by certified beekeeper (bee expert Stephan Weirich)
  • Promotion of insect and plant diversity on the hotel grounds

A place that lives and protects life

The grounds around the Landhotel Sophienhöhe are managed in a natural and ecological way . No pesticides, no monocultures, no sterile lawns. Instead, there is blooming diversity, old fruit trees, untouched corners and, right in the middle of it all, our NRW beekeeping, which makes this wealth visible and tangible.

Our guests often experience this in passing: at breakfast on the forest terracewhile strolling through the garden or simply listening to the humming in the air above them.

A sweet contribution to sustainability

Beekeeping NRW is more than just a nice project for us. It stands for what is important to us: acting regionally, taking responsibility, combining enjoyment and environmental awareness. And it shows how much joy there is in small things: in a jar of honey, in a blooming meadow, in a moment of mindfulness.

So the next time you enjoy our breakfast buffet or take a stroll through the garden, listen carefully. Our bees are sure to greet you with a busy buzz.

And if you would like to take a glass of Sophienhöhe home with you or plan an exciting tour of our NRW apiary, simply ask at our reception desk.
